Where is Saphan Khwai?
Saphan Khwai is in Phaya Thai district, in north-central Bangkok, centered on Phahonyothin Road. BTS Saphan Khwai, on the Sukhumvit line, sits right in the middle of it.
What does the name "Saphan Khwai" mean?
Literally, buffalo bridge. The story locals tell is that this used to be a spot where buffalo were traded and driven across a bridge here, back when the area was still farmland at the edge of the city. We say story because that is what it is: the account passed down by people who live here, not a settled academic history.
How do I get there?
Take the BTS Sukhumvit line to Saphan Khwai station and walk from there. Most of what we cover is within easy walking distance of the exits.
Is the area walkable?
Yes, that is really the whole premise of this directory. Everything we list is roughly within 800 metres of the station, close enough to cover on foot in one outing.
Is there a map?
Not one of our own yet. Where we have the link, each place page points to it on Google Maps instead.
How do I suggest a place or report a mistake?

Are the English and Thai pages the same?
Each place has a paired English and Thai page, but they are not always published at the same moment. Sometimes an entry exists in one language before we get around to the other.
Does it cost anything to be listed?
No. Nothing costs anything here, and no place pays us to appear or to be written about kindly. Our Code of Ethics page spells out the rest of how we work.
Who publishes this site?
The writing is by residents of the neighborhood. The site itself is published by Ulalia Co., Ltd., based in Bangkok.
