Deep Dive

Kaffetori is a little coffee shop within one minute walking distance of BTS Saphan Khwai (Exit 3). Expect "neighborhood coffee" quality here, not the finest beans or best roasts. But if you want a decent coffee, you do get above-average coffee for the price. Not the kind of place you'd go out of your way for — but if you want the best coffee within two minutes' walk of BTS Saphan Khwai, then this is it.

The atmosphere isn't much — it's a "sip your coffee and go on with your day" place rather than a comfortable chill spot where you'd want to linger and relax. Functional but not comfy. They also sell plain croissants at 45 baht a piece, and again: not the best quality, but if you just want something in your belly to go along with your coffee, it's a fair deal.

The Equipment

  • La Marzocco espresso machine

The Beans

  • House Blend (Mae Hong Son, Brazil, Laos) — medium or dark roast

  • Mae Jan Tai (light roast, anaerobic, natural)

  • Brazil Santos (full-bodied, strong coffee — not bitter, not burnt — with an aromatic, rich, and smooth taste; from Brazilian farmers, processed by the natural process, meaning the whole coffee cherries are dried with the fruit still on, which gives a naturally sweet flavor from the fresh coffee cherries). This is a quite common choice for many coffee shops in Bangkok that want to offer good but affordable coffee.

Coffee Drinks

Americano at 50 baht. Also: latte, cappuccino, es yen, mocha, caramel latte, orange Americano, pineapple Americano, espresso macchiato, and maroccino.

Milk substitute options: almond or pistachio milk, oat milk, soy milk, lactose-free milk.

Non-Coffee Drinks

  • Smoothies: strawberry, orange, mixed berries — with banana or yogurt add-ons

  • Sodas: honey lemon, lychee, strawberry orange, blue soda, rainbow soda

The Owner

The owner is a friendly woman who is — according to the shop's Facebook page — an avid runner who likes to travel and drink coffee. She has attended a professional 18-hour barista course at Le Cordon Bleu Dusit Culinary School.
