Saphan Khwai Fresh Market

ตลาดสดสะพานควาย

Walked & published

A small neighborhood fresh market of around 30 vendors: vegetables, spices, meat, seafood and some fruit, at good prices, shopped mostly by locals and small food vendors. I prefer the vegetables here to Big C's: not as pretty, but more flavorful, and you find more obscure veggies and spices Big C doesn't carry. Ten minutes covers every aisle. Tourists wanting to explore Thai fruit and vegetables are better off at Or Tor Kor, about a 20-minute walk north; this is for an authentic local market, or for locals who want things cheap.

Deep Dive

They sell mostly produce here: anything from veggies and spices to meats, seafood and some fruits. It's a relatively small market with around 30 vendors, but the prices are good, and lots of locals and small food vendors shop here. If you want to experience an authentic, small local fresh market in the neighborhood, this is the place.

I prefer the vegetables here over the ones at Big C. They're typically more flavorful and tasty, even if they're not as nice-looking, and you get a lot of things here that Big C doesn't have, like more obscure veggies and spices.

It takes about 10 minutes to walk through all the aisles, so it really is a tiny market, much smaller and less impressive than Or Tor Kor about a 20-minute walk north. For tourists who want to explore Thai fruits and veggies, Or Tor Kor is definitely the better choice. For locals, this one is nice because you get things cheap.
